President Donald Trump on Thursday lashed out at Democrats for returning two articles of impeachment against him over allegations he improperly threatened Ukraine, claiming that they are making it much more difficult to conduct foreign policy.
“Despite all of the great success that our Country has had over the last 3 years, it makes it much more difficult to deal with foreign leaders (and others) when I am having to constantly defend myself against the Do Nothing Democrats & their bogus Impeachment Scam. Bad for USA!” the president wrote in a tweet.
Democrats have accused President Trump of threatening to withhold military aid from Ukraine unless the country’s leader agreed to conduct an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden, his son Hunter Biden, and the Democrat Party’s involvement with Ukrainian leaders during the 2016 election to help the party’s nominee, Hillary Clinton.
A rough transcript of a July 25 phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not indicate that the president made such a demand.
Zelensky himself has said publicly since the charges were leveled that Trump never demanded an investigation, nor has one been launched. The military aid was delivered as well.
