Trump Calls On GOP To Probe ‘Anti-America’ Censorship If Party Wins Control Of Congress

Former President Donald Trump laid down a gauntlet of sorts for Republican lawmakers if the part retakes control of Congress during the 2022 midterms in November.

The 45th president and financial force behind Truth Media and Technology Group, the company that owns the Truth Social platform, urged Republicans to investigate the “anti-American practice” of censorship “as soon as we have power” during a speech at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit in Tampa, Fla., over the weekend.

“I’ll talk about the next critical fight we need is for your energy to be put behind the battle to restore free speech in America. There is no such thing as a democracy that does not have free speech. We don’t have free speech anymore,” he said.

“We have canceled culture we have fake news media that reports certain news incorrectly. And if it’s positive about the other side, they make it much better, and if it’s bad about the other side, they won’t even report it,” Trump continued.

“It’s a disgrace. The media has taken a place in our culture and our history that nobody ever thought would be possible. They are no longer respected,” Trump went on.

“If debate can be silenced, if dissent can be suppressed, if conservative ideas can be systematically shut down, then very simply, we do not have a free country anymore. That’s what happened with communism and various countries. That’s what happened with Venezuela,” he added.

“The next Congress and the next president have a civic duty to be ruthless in going after this new censorship regime,” he said. “We have to because if we do not destroy censorship, censorship will destroy America. Our country will rot from it

“As soon as we have the power, Congress should immediately launch a full-scale investigation into the rise of totally anti-American practice,” Trump said.

In May, Truth Social’s CEO, former Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), discussed big plans ahead for the platform.

During an interview on Fox News, Nunes talked to host Maria Bartiromo about cracking down on the tyranny of Big Tech by restoring free speech.

“At Truth Social, we cannot use any of the ‘tech giants’ because we don’t want to be in a position to be shut down,” Nunes said. “So now as we move forward, you know, we launched on the Apple App Store first. We just [launched] this week: TruthSocial.com, anyone can sign up on any device and get an account.”

Conservative Brief :

Bartiromo asked Nunes his thoughts on a Republican-led bill being floated right now that would break up Google’s monopoly on online advertising.

The “Competition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act” would level the playing field for companies making more than $20 billion in digital ad revenue, busting Google’s stronghold over Alphabet Inc.

The Competition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act would “restore and protect competition in digital advertising by eliminating conflicts of interest that have allowed the leading platforms in the market to manipulate ad auctions and impose monopoly rents on a broad swath of the American economy,” a news release from Utah Republican Mike Lee’s office noted.

Nunes said of the legislation, “I think what I really see is a lack of willingness by DOJ to actually bring these anti-trust cases against these companies.”

He went on to say that at Truth Social, “we don’t want to be beholden to Google” to generate ad revenue.
