Rep. Lauren Boebert took to social media on Tuesday to gauge the reaction from leftist Democrats after a report noted the U.S. Supreme Court, in a draft opinion that is not yet official, appears to be leaning towards reversing Roe v. Wade.
The draft opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito and confirmed as authentic by Chief Justice John Roberts earlier Tuesday, was apparently leaked to POLITICO, which reported on its contents Monday evening. It’s not yet clear who leaked the document or why, but speculation has run rampant in Washington, D.C., and beyond.
Following the news that a majority of justices want to reverse the 1973 ruling and return the issue to states, a number of Democratic lawmakers and left-wing pundits expressed anger, which lead to Boebert’s brutal one-line tweet.
“Seems the Left suddenly can define ‘woman’ again,” she wrote, likely a reference to President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson, who was confirmed to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer later in the summer after the current SCOTUS session. During her testimony, she refused to define what a “woman” is.

“The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right,” POLITICO reported.
In the draft opinion, Alito wrote: “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.”
“We, therefore, hold the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. Roe and Casey must be overruled, and the authority to regulate abortion must be returned to the people and their elected representatives,” Alito added.
After news of the draft ruling spread, Democrats demanded the Senate reverse its filibuster rule so that a bare majority can help pass legislation codifying the right to an abortion in federal law.
“If the report is accurate, the Supreme Court is poised to inflict the greatest restriction of rights in the past fifty years – not just on women but on all Americans,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a . “The Republican-appointed Justices’ reported votes to overturn Roe v. Wade would go down as an abomination, one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history.”
In the tweet, Schumer claimed: “Several conservative Justices, who are in no way accountable to the people, have lied to the Senate, ripped up the Constitution, and defiled precedent and the Court’s reputation—all at the expense of women who could soon be stripped of bodily autonomy and constitutional rights.”
