President Joe Biden and his administration were blasted again by former Hawaii Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard over plans to end Title 42 amid ongoing chaos along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Gabbard’s remarks also came on the heels of reports that a Texas Army National Guard soldier is missing and presumed drowned after jumping in the Rio Grande River in an attempt to save two migrants crossing illegally who appeared to be in trouble.
“Out of compassion, a National Guardsman heroically dove into the Rio Grande River to save two illegal immigrants on the verge of drowning. They lived—he didn’t. Those who are trying to protect our borders are the real humanitarians, not those who advocate for open borders…” Gabbard, herself a former Hawaii Army National Guard officer and current Army Reserve lieutenant colonel began in a short Twitter thread.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin confirmed that 48 hours later, although the Guardsman is presumed drowned, the body had yet been recovered.
“Good morning from Eagle Pass, TX where illegal crossings continue nonstop. This group just walked across the Rio Grande as it runs lower in the AM hours. Just a few miles away is where a TX National Guard soldier presumably drowned. Still not found after nearly 48 hours,” he tweeted on Sunday morning along with a short video clip.

Democrats have joined with Republicans to urge Biden to reverse his decision to end Title 42 as reports claim tens of thousands of migrants are already preparing to cross illegally into the U.S. once it is formally lifted next month.
“Arizona communities bear the brunt of the federal government’s failure at our border, so we’re stepping in and protecting border communities by ensuring the Administration works hand-in-hand with local leaders, law enforcement, and non-profits to put a comprehensive, workable plan in place before lifting Title 42,” Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, a Democrat, said in a statement earlier this month.
Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) said: “The Biden Administration is declaring the pandemic over on our southern border but still active on our healthcare workers, military, and travelers. Department of Homeland Security intel projections show that potentially a million people will illegally cross the moment Title 42 is lifted.
“But instead of a workable replacement plan, the only plan the Biden Administration seems to have is moving people faster into the interior of the country,” he added.
“They cannot have it both ways. If they think it’s safe enough to lift Title 42 at the border, then it must be safe enough to lift the COVID-19 state of emergency on the whole country,” he said. “But when we drop Title 42 at the border, DHS must also implement a workable solution to expel migrants.”
