A new survey has dealt another blow to President Joe Biden’s political capital with the American people, this time over his handling of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Specifically, Biden is not able to handle “difficult international issues,” such as defending Ukraine from the Russian invasion, according to a majority of respondents to a recent Harvard Harris poll.
One survey question queried, “Do you think President Biden is able to handle difficult international issues like defending Ukraine from the Russians and protecting Taiwan from China or is he not able to handle these kinds of problems?”
Overall, 54 percent of respondents said Biden “is not able” to handle such difficult issues, compared to 46 percent who said he was.
“A wide gap is seen by party-affiliation with 79% of Democrats saying that the Democratic president is able to handle difficult international issues and only 21% saying he is not. Among Republicans, only 17% say Biden is able to handle difficult international issues, with 83% saying he is not,” Newsmax reported, citing the survey.
“Among independents the divide is closer, but still, 60% say Biden is not capable of handling such hard issues, while only 40% say that he is,” the outlet continued.
Former President Donald Trump has weighed in on Biden’s handling of the conflict as well.
Shortly after Russia invaded on Thursday, he said in a statement issued by his political action committee, Save America, that “there was absolutely no reason that the situation in Ukraine should have happened at all,” and said that the sanctions issued against Russia are “weak” and “insignificant” compared to gaining control over Ukraine.
“If properly handled, there was absolutely no reason that the situation currently happening in Ukraine should have happened at all,” Trump said. “I know [Russian President] Vladimir Putin very well, and he would have never done during the Trump Administration what he is doing now, no way!
“Russia has become very very rich during the Biden Administration, with oil prices doubling and soon to be tripling and quadrupling. The weak sanctions are insignificant relative to taking over a country and a massive piece of strategically located land,” he continued.
“Now it has begun, oil prices are going higher and higher, and Putin is not only getting what he always wanted, but getting, because of the oil and gas surge, richer and richer,” Trump added.
“The U.S. was energy independent under the Trump Administration, an independence that we had never obtained before, and oil prices would have remained low. Now, what a mess our Country is in!”
