Dem Lawmaker: ‘Impound’ Trucks From ‘People’s Convoy’ Protest Heading to D.C.

A Democratic lawmaker has suggested empowering the federal government to confiscate trucks heading to Washington, D.C., as part of “The People’s Convoy” protest.

“Perfect time to impound and give the trucks to small trucking companies looking to expand their business,” wrote Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), in a tweet quoting an NBC News report claiming the trucker convoy may shut down traffic around the nation’s capital on Friday.

Some notable responses to Gallego’s suggesting include:

  • Dana Loesch, radio host: “Also known as theft.”
  • Kurt Schlichter, political commentator: “Siding with foreign dictators.”
  • Robert Arce, former law enforcement official: “Will your distribution of wealth be done at gunpoint?”
  • Nick Searcy, actor: “Why don’t you just murder them like a good communist, ?”

His tweet comes after the Canadian government invoked emergency powers to clear a trucker protest from the city of Ottawa, which was widely criticized as being authoritarian.
