(USA Features) Former NFL star Hershel Walker, who has jumped into the U.S. Senate race as a Republican candidate in Georgia, explained why he is running in an interview on Fox News Sunday.
Walker told host Maria Bartiromo that he wants to bring integrity and honesty back to public office and the country as a whole, while also talking about key issues including border security, law and order, and school choice.
The NFL great also accused the Biden administration and Democrats for being politically divisive and gaslighting the nation ahead of the 2022 midterms.
“Well, I think the main platform is bring some integrity and bring some honesty back to this to this country, to the state of Georgia,” Walker said.
“I believe in the goals that should be goals that everyone believes in and that everyone should have: law and order for all people, not just for certain people, but for all people. I believe in supporting our military, which is what we should do,” he continued.
“I believe in border control. We have to have border control. Those are the things that we should all be believing in, not just certain groups,” he added.
“I believe in school choice. I think everyone should have school choice education for our kids. And those are common things that everyone should be believing in.
“But it seems like the left doesn’t believe in that. They believe in separation, and that’s something I do not believe in. I don’t believe in separation,” he said, going on to praise the country in general.
“I think the reason this country is the greatest country in the world is because there are so many great minds put together and you don’t have just one or two classes like you have in a lot of other countries- the rich and the poor,” said Walker.
“You have people that have the freedom to go out and work and make the American dream come true. That’s what I believe in, and it’s helping people to get that done.”
Former President Donald Trump had been encouraging Walker to jump into the Senate race to run against incumbent Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, who defeated GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler in November.
“In the United States Senate, I will stand up for conservative values and get our country moving in the right direction. It is time to have leaders in Washington who will fight to protect the American Dream for everybody,” Walker said last month after announcing his bid.
