Constitutional expert and law professor Jonathan Turley made an interesting observation on Wednesday amid reports that federal authorities have reached a “critical stage’ in their four-year probe of Hunter Biden for various issues.
In a tweet, the Georgetown Law School professor noted: “There are reports that the grand jury is looking at criminal charges against Hunter Biden for lobbying, gun, and tax offenses. While the grand jury may be at a ‘critical stage,’ the stage for a special counsel passed some time ago.
He added: “It is also curious how you get to a ‘critical stage’ in the Grand Jury on such charges without hearing testimony from the person referenced as ‘the big guy’ who would receive a ten percent cut and Hunter’s uncle who helped in some of these dealings.”

Continuing, Turley noted, “That is the type of evidence that would establish a conspiracy or broader criminal enterprise. The concern is that a narrow criminal case could be brought that avoid such implications and allows for a plea bargain.
“That is why a special counsel can serve to assure the public that there is no influence in the scope, timing, or charges in the investigation,” he said.
“Finally, if you are investigating a FARA violation in lobbying for foreign interests, wouldn’t the grand jury want to hear from the object of that lobbying, Joe Biden? Emails repeatedly show Hunter referencing his father to clients in this influence peddling scheme,” Turley tweeted.

Earlier, Fox News , citing an anonymous source, that the office of Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss was currently considering filing charges against the first son for “various tax” crimes and “possible foreign lobbying” violations.
“A separate source told Fox News that the federal grand jury looking into Hunter Biden’s business dealings wrapped up its latest term late last month, but said no charges have been filed,” Fox News reported, adding that, according to the source, Hunter Biden could also face charges of lying to investigators.
The source added that no final decisions have been made regarding charges and that the investigations are ongoing.
Steven Cheung, a former White House special assistant to President Trump, tweeted that even CNN has reported that Hunter Biden may be facing some serious legal trouble. That includes allegedly lying on a federal gun background check about his reported past use of and addiction to crack cocaine.
“BREAKING: Even @CNN can’t deny Hunter Biden is in serious trouble. Sources: Federal investigators have reached a critical decision point on charging Hunter Biden. Tax violations, gun charges, lying to authorities and possible money laundering, campaign finance, foreign lobbying,” he tweeted on Wednesday along with a clip of CNN host Jake Tapper reviewing the possible charges.

Last year, Turley wrote regarding the situation: “Hunter clearly only had influence and access to sell. We know now that foreign interests gave Hunter millions at a time that he admits that he was a crack addict and alcoholic — in his words, ‘Drinking a quart of vodka a day by yourself in a room is absolutely, completely debilitating,’ as well as ‘smoking crack around the clock.'”
