Investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald took the major media to task in a Twitter thread on Saturday to accuse them of working with government officials to suppress damning information about President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, in the lead-up to the 2020 election.
His observations come on the heels of a by The New York Times, which — along with confirming that Hunter Biden remains under federal investigation — noted that emails found on a laptop he reportedly abandoned at a computer repair shop in Delaware in 2019 were authentic.
The Times reported:
People familiar with the investigation said prosecutors had examined emails between Mr. Biden, Mr. Archer and others about Burisma and other foreign business activity. Those emails were obtained by The New York Times from a cache of files that appears to have come from a laptop abandoned by Mr. Biden in a Delaware repair shop. The email and others in the cache were authenticated by people familiar with them and with the investigation.
New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, author of “The Laptop From Hell,” observed that none of the dozens of senior ex-intelligence officials who signed a letter claiming they believed that reports about Hunter Biden were nothing more than “Russian disinformation” have been willing thus far to reverse their previous views.
“Spies who lie: The contacted the senior ex-intelligence officials who signed the shameful 2020 letter declaring Hunter Biden’s laptop and its emails we ran were Russian disinformation. Not one apologized. Most refused to comment. A few like James Clapper doubled down,” she tweeted.
The Post was the first media outlet to report on the damning information contained on the laptop. Those reports were published in mid-October, just a few weeks before the 2020 election.

Greenwald responded: “It’s unfortunate that the is one of the few large US outlets willing to hold accountable the cretins in the US security state for the lies they told about the Biden emails being ‘Russian disinformation’ – designed to manipulate the 2020 election – but that’s our reality.”
“These ‘former intelligence officials’ – trained career disinformation agents, who were supposed to manipulate other countries’ politics, not the US’s – have the same contempt for the public as the media outlets they command: refuse to admit their lies,” he added.

He went on to share a link to a podcast he said outlined the situation in greater detail, while indicting The Intercept, an outlet he co-founded and resigned from, for its role in furthering the narrative.

In addition to the former intelligence community officials refusing to change their stance following the Times confirmation, Greenwald also pointed out that none of the major media outlets that echoed the ‘Russian disinformation’ narrative had offered to correct the record, either.
“And, just by the way, it’s been 48 hours since the outlet they regard as ‘The Paper of Record’ stated they authenticated the emails in the Hunter Biden archive about Joe’s activities. Not a single media outlet that spread the CIA lie has acknowledged it or retracted their lies,” he .
“At the time CIA got huge numbers of corporate outlets to spread its lie that the Biden laptop was ‘Russian disinformation,’ actual reporters at the WPost warned Biden constantly maligns incriminating reports as ‘Russian disinformation’ with no evidence,” Greenwald continued.
He did note that one of the few reporters at the Times who had “really explored how Biden’s actions in Ukraine benefitted Burisma as it paid Hunter $50k/month” was a woman named Iuliia Mendel — who later became press secretary to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
One interesting historical note: The co-author of the first NYT article, from 2019, that really explored how Biden's actions in Ukraine benefitted Burisma as it paid Hunter $50k/month was , who 1 month later became Zelensky's Press Secretary.

Greenwald concluded his thread by reminding followers about Ukraine’s efforts to undermine former President Donald Trump during the 2016 election, followed by a video of Congressman Adam Schiff with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer, both of whom parroted the narrative.
“Here’s the worst pathological liar in the US Congress bar none, , repeating, in Oct 2020, the CIA lie to Wolf that the emails from the Biden laptop were ‘Russian disinformation’ (Blitzer and CNN also affirmed this lie on their own of course),” Greenwald tweeted.
