Biden’s ‘War on Energy’ Is Making Americans Angrier; ‘Don’t They Deserve a Country That Works and a Government That Works?’ Asks GOP Lawmaker

A Texas Republican said Tuesday that President Joe Biden’s and Democrats’ “war on energy” is stirring up the country and making Americans angry for no good reason.

“It didn’t have to be this way. It’s so wrong,” Rep. Michael Burgess told “Mornings with Maria” on the Fox Business Network.

“You know, the first thing president Biden did was an executive order to stop the Keystone pipeline — that was his opening salvo in his war on energy. The green new deal crowd that has his ear right now wants us to get our energy from starlight and windmills, but they don’t always work,” he added.

Scores of windmills on a massive wind farm in Texas froze and were inoperable during an unusually cold winter storm in Texas in February, leading to widespread power outages in the state. “They don’t provide the base loading power that you need,” Burgess noted.

“And here’s a prediction. We’re going to have a cold winter, not just in this country but in Europe and other parts of the world,” he said.

“Energy prices are going to get significantly higher, and look, people are already mad. I spent a lot of time in the airport last night, trying to get back to Washington. People are mad,” the Texas lawmaker continued.

“They’ve had about enough of what this administration has to offer. They just want things to work again,” he said.

“Don’t people deserve a country that works and a government that works? Right now the Biden administration says no.”

CNS News added:

Southwest Airlines has canceled around 2,000 flights in recent days, following the announcement of a company-wide vaccine mandate and the filing of a lawsuit by Southwest pilots seeking to temporarily block the mandate. That has angered stranded passengers.

The southwest border is wide open; materials for the wall Trump intended to build are being pilfered “by the very cartels that we’re trying to keep out,” Burgess said.

“Secretary Mayorkas has shown absolute incompetence, indifference, callousness in dealing with this from the standpoint of the people of Texas, and President Biden has certainly been non-vis(ible) himself,” he added.

Burgess also said Congress’s failure to pass spending bills is “one of the big problems we have.”

“We don’t do appropriations normally anymore, so I cannot get the head of any federal agency to answer a phone call because they don’t have to look to Congress for their appropriation dollars. They just get them through a continuing resolution or omnibus. It’s wrong.

“We need to hold the heads of agencies accountable, and we do that with the purse strings. That’s how the Founders intended for it to work,” Burgess said.

The Texas lawmaker’s comments come amid a series of bad polls for Biden, including one last month that found a large majority of Americans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.

Fox News reported that, by a 54-37% margin, Americans believe their country is less united under Biden rather than more so.

“About half of voters also say Biden has the mental soundness to serve effectively as president (49%, unchanged from 2020) and is honest and trustworthy (50%, down 2 points),” Fox News reported.

“His lowest ratings are on leadership: 45% describe as a strong leader, down from 49% last fall,” the network said, adding: “Biden’s overall job rating stands at 50 percent approve and 49 percent disapprove. Those are the lowest marks of his presidency.”

In July most Americans said they were not optimistic about the next 12 months. The percentage has risen by 20 points since the last survey was taken at President Joe Biden’s 100-day mark, an ABC News/Ipsos poll found.

The new survey found that 55% of Americans are now pessimistic about the direction of the country, with just 45% optimistic about where things are headed.
