(USA Features) Sean Spicer, former President Donald Trump’s first press secretary, said definitively on Friday his old boss is planning a 2024 White House bid.
Spicer, who is a co-host of the Newsmax TV show “Spicer & Co.” with co-host Lyndsay Keith, made the remarks during a preview interview for an upcoming book about the administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“He’s in,” said Spicer, author of “,” which has already become an Amazon pre-sale bestseller.
Spicer’s comment comes as Trump has been meeting with “Cabinet members” and leading congressional Republicans at his golf resort in Bedminster, N.J., the Washington Examiner reported.
In June, he met with Republican Study Committee chair Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., and members of the caucus’s leadership to discuss strategy and other relevant topics with an eye toward Democrat’s thin majority in the House, along with an evenly-divided Senate.
“We talked for most of the time about the work that the Republican Study Committee is doing to define the agenda for the future course of the Republican Party, which is fighting for the Trump agenda,” Banks the New York Post.
“We talked about our election integrity bill, The Save Democracy Act, which he was very supportive of and we talked about what we’ve done to define immigration moving forward,” Banks added.
“We spent nearly two hours with the President with President Trump who’s in great spirits,” Banks noted further, adding that the focus was on reviving the former president’s policy agenda.
“We believe we take back the majority by focusing on the Trump agenda, and President Trump plays a big role in that,” Banks continued. “He’s obviously planning to go out and hit the road and campaign for candidates who share our vision, and we were excited to talk to him about that.”
“I can say that members of our group are very encouraging and if not encouraging him to run in 2024, encouraging him to continue to communicate with American people and engage with the American people,” said the Indiana Republican.
And last week, Trump’s last White House chief of staff, former GOP Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina, intimidated that former “Cabinet members” were meeting with Trump at Bedminster as well.
“We met with several of our Cabinet members tonight,” Meadows said at the time during an interview with former Trump adviser Steve Cortes on Newsmax TV.
“We actually had a follow-up member — meeting with some of our Cabinet members, and as we were looking at that. We were looking at what does come next,” he added.
“I’m not authorized to speak on behalf of the president, but I can tell you this, Steve: We wouldn’t be meeting tonight if we weren’t making plans to move forward in a real way, with President Trump at the head of that ticket,” Meadows noted further.
The former GOP lawmaker from North Carolina did not name any Cabinet members specifically but said that the talks were focused primarily on how best to win back the House, perhaps the Senate, and certainly the White House in the next two election cycles.
During his book interview, Spicer also noted that the former president has amassed a $102 million war chest which he plans to utilize to help Republicans regain control of Congress.
Pollster John McLaughlin has also said that “the more Biden fails, the better President Trump looks.”
McLaughlin has suggested that 2024 could look like 1980, when Ronald Reagan, who lost his 1976 primary fight, beat a floundering Jimmy Carter. Should he run and win, McLaughlin also believes that a Trump 2.0 would be “better, smarter.”
