(USA Features) Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday that Democrats are attempting to sneak in an amnesty for illegal aliens as part of a multi-trillion-dollar “infrastructure” bill that continually grows larger with unrelated add-ons.
But the South Carolina Republican lashed out at the noting, calling it a “power grab” that could be the lamest idea in the history of the White House and Senate as the crisis along portions of the U.S.-Mexico border continue to worsen.
“If you give one person legal status there will be a run on our border like you have never seen before…the dumbest idea in the history of the Senate, the history of the White House,” Graham told Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”
“It will lead to the breakdown of law and order beyond what you see today,” he added.
Graham also blasted Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for trying to pass, with no GOP support, a massive $3.5 trillion budget resolution bill he says has not yet been written.
“It’s a power grab,” said Graham, adding that the massive measure doesn’t have a “damn thing to do with infrastructure.”
GOP lawmakers have been attempting to warn about what they have said is an effort by Democrats to sneak in amnesty for tens of millions of illegal immigrants into legislation that is supposed to be going to fund legitimate infrastructure like roads, bridges, airports, waterways, and the like.
Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, tweeted last week, “Democrats are trying to sneak mass amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants through Congress under the cover of their budget scheme. They hope you won’t notice.”
A Bay-area public radio station, KQED, has reported that Democrats want the amnesty in the legislation because they are claiming immigration reform is part of ‘human infrastructure,’ Fox News reported.
“Citizenship is essential infrastructure for immigrant families. For many, it’s a gateway to a driver’s license, to health care, to higher education,” Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., was quoted as saying.
The Biden administration signaled its support for including amnesty in an infrastructure bill last week.
“Schumer hopes to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill that comes with a $1.2 trillion price tag and a $3.5 trillion budget resolution that will likely only receive Democrat support,” Fox News reported.
“Specific details of the 10-year resolution are not clear. Democrats say the resolution aims to tackle climate change, education and an expansion of Medicare,” the network added.
Graham said the massive spending bill will also serve as a huge tax on businesses and corporations as they will be tapped to fund the legislation.
