House Republicans Will Join Trump For Border Visit

(USA Features) Several House Republicans have announced they’ll be joining former President Donald Trump during an invited trip to the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas next week.

Members of the Republican Study Committee, the House’s largest GOP caucus, will make the trip on June 30 with Trump.

Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana, chair of the committee, accused the Biden administration of creating the chaotic situation along the U.S. border after reversing most of Trump’s enforcement policies and agreements with other countries concerning migrants.

“That’s why the RSC has made carrying on the Trump legacy on immigration our top priority this Congress and why we are heading to the border with President Trump to explain how we can end this national embarrassment,” Banks said in a statement sent to the Washington Examiner.

Trump in March suggested he would make a trip to the border, telling Fox News “a lot of people want me to.”

“Thousands and thousands of people are coming up right now as we speak. And you’re going to have millions of people pouring into our country. And it’s going to destroy our country,” Trump said at the time.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who will also visit the border with Trump, extended an invitation to the former president earlier this month.

“The Biden Administration inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in U.S history and in mere weeks they turned it into the single worst border crisis in U.S history. It’s an unmitigated disaster zone,” Trump said in a statement after accepting the GOP governor’s request.

Trump’s visit is scheduled to take place just days after Vice President Kamala Harris visits on Friday after facing pressure from Republicans and some Democrats for months to see the chaotic situation along the border herself.

She is expected to make the trip accompanied by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Harris was appointed by President Joe Biden in late March to oversee the border crisis.

Trump said in a statement he was glad Harris was finally going.

“After months of ignoring the crisis at the Southern Border, it is great that we got Kamala Harris to finally go and see the tremendous destruction and death that they’ve created — a direct result of Biden ending my very tough but fair Border policies,” the former president said.

“Harris and Biden were given the strongest Border in American history. And now, it is by far the worst in American history,” he said, adding that if and Abbott “weren’t going there next week, she would have never gone!”
