Trump Rips France’s Macron After Welcoming Biden to ‘Club’: ‘I Am For America First’

(USA Features) Former President Donald Trump blasted French President Emmanuel Macron after he welcomed President Joe Biden to the G7 “club” on Saturday.

“I think it’s great to have a U.S. president part of the club and very willing to cooperate,” Macron said in a statement, which prompted Trump’s reply.

“This was a quote by the President of France. He and many other Leaders before him, in France and throughout Europe, were ripping off the United States like never before,” Trump said in a statement issued by his Save America PAC.

“We were treated very unfairly with horrible trade deals, and paying for a large portion of their defense,” he added, a reference to the NATO alliance in which Trump often chided members for failing to meet their obligation of spending 2% of their GDP on defense.

“They were taking advantage of the United States and therefore, of course, they like Biden because now they will be allowed to return to their old ways of ripping off our Country,” Trump continued.

“If I were a leader of these countries, I too would like Biden far better than President Trump,” he added.

“They will now get very rich off the United States just like they have in the past until a change is made. I am for AMERICA FIRST!”

In 2019, Macron was one of a few world leaders at a NATO summit who appeared to complain that they were late to meetings because Trump went long on a press conference.

“Is that why you were late?” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said to macron, smiling.

“He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top. Oh, ya, ya, ya. Forty minutes. He announced …” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau chimed in.

Macron then said something inaudible, followed by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Later, another video posted by the Canadian Broadcasting Company showed Trudeau remarking about Trump’s team.

“You just watched his team’s jaws drop to the floor,” Trudeau said.

No one mentioned Trump by name, but at the time, the U.S. president did give a lengthy press conference on arrival to the confab.

During a subsequent press conference, Trump called out Trudeau by name and suggested that he’s not “happy” with the fact that the U.S. leader pressed him on Canada’s failure to pay 2% of its GDP for its own defense, per NATO’s membership agreement.

“Well, he’s two-faced. And honestly with Trudeau, he’s a nice guy. I find him to be a very nice guy, but the truth is I called him out on the fact he’s not paying 2%,” Trump said, adding that the Canadian PM probably “wasn’t very happy about it.”
