(USA Features) Former President Donald Trump on Friday praised state Republicans in Arizona for pressing ahead with an audit of 2.1 million ballots cast during the November election in Maricopa County.
In a statement issued by his office in Florida, he said that state GOP officials were working at “exposing the large scale Voter Fraud which took place in the 2020 Presidential Election,” adding that their “tireless efforts have led to a massive recount, ballot examination, and full forensic audit, undertaken by experts retained by the State Senate, with results to be announced within six weeks.”
He called their efforts “brave and patriotic,” but he had less glowing praise for the state’s Republican governor.
“The Governor of Arizona, Doug Ducey, has been shockingly of zero help to the State Senate,” Trump claimed. “He wants to ‘pretend’ the election was free and fair. What are he and the Maricopa County Commissioners trying to hide?”
“Our country needs the truth of the scam 2020 Election to be exposed,” he argued. “Thank you State Senators and others in Arizona for commencing this full forensic audit. I predict the results will be startling!”
Democrats who sued to stop the audit were granted a reprieve by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Christopher Coury, who ordered it halted at 5 p.m. local time until noon Monday to give state Republicans time to appeal.
He ordered Democrats to post a $1 million by the time limit Friday to protect the audit from suffering financial losses.
“I do not want to micromanage and it is not the posture of this court to micromanage or even to manage the process by which another branch of government, the Legislature, the Arizona state senate proceeds,” the judge said.
But, he said, plaintiffs’ security concerns were valid and that the GOP-obtained audit firm, CyberNinja, must provide the court with their security protocols over the weekend.
Trump commented on the stoppage as well.
“Why are the Democrats so desperate to stop this Election Fraud from being revealed? That answer is obvious!” he said.
