(USA Features) President Donald Trump called out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday for her decision to form a new panel to serve as a watchdog for the administration’s coronavirus response.

“This is not the time for politics. Endless, partisan investigations, here we go again,” Trump said at the White House press briefing.

Democrats announced Thursday that they would create a new select committee to investigate the president’s response efforts and his $2 trillion economic relief package.

“Where there’s money, there’s also frequently mischief,” Pelosi said while announcing the creation of the committee.

Trump characterized the new panel as another “witch hunt” that would not be helpful during the coronavirus national emergency.

“Here we go again … You see what happens, it’s witch hunt after witch hunt, after witch hunt. And in the end the people doing the witch hunt have been losing and they’ve been losing by a lot,” said the president.

“Conducting these partisan investigations in the middle of a pandemic is a really big waste of vital resources, time, attention,” Trump told reporters.

“We want to fight for American lives, not waste time and build up my poll numbers because that’s all they’re doing because everyone knows it’s ridiculous. So we want to focus on the people of this country, even the people of the world.”
