(USA Features) Lawyers representing the Chinese government have filed suit against the United States over a conspiracy theory claiming that COVID-19 originated in America.
The suits filed in Chinese courts claim that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Defense Department, and the White House have ‘covered up’ the actual origins of the virus.
Earlier reporting, including from Chinese state-run media, noted that COVID-19 originated in Wuhan city, Hubei province.
“The suits are part of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) outrageous propaganda campaign to obscure its own responsibility for the pandemic by pretending it might have secretly originated on U.S. soil, possibly as an American-made bio-weapon,” Breitbart News reported.
In recent weeks, the Chinese government has launched a widespread propaganda campaign aimed at shifting blame to others, namely the United States, for the creation and spread of the virus.
One of Beijing’s narratives is that the virus is a biological weapon introduced into China by the U.S. military.
Radio Free Asia reported on the suits, noting:
Wuhan lawyer Liang Xuguang filed one lawsuit with the Wuhan Intermediate People’s Court against the U.S. Government, CDC, the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Armed Forces Sports Council claiming damages of 200,000 yuan (around U.S.$28,000).
The lawsuit alleges that the defendants were responsible for lost wages and emotional harm because they “covered up” the alleged emergence of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 on U.S. soil.
“From Sept. 2019 to Mar. 2020, the U.S. Government and the CDC knowingly disclosed the wrong public health information in the name of ‘influenza’ when some of the influenza patients were actually infected with some undetermined type of virus (which was later proved to be COVID-19),” the lawsuit, translated by the China Justice Observer (CJO) website, said.
Not all Chinese legal experts are in favor of the suit.
There are too many clowns in the legal profession,” human rights lawyer Sui Muqing told the RFA.
“The main aim of the Chinese government in picking these fights is to make the Chinese people believe in them,” he noted.
