The wife of former Vice President Joe Biden launched a broadside against President Donald Trump on Monday for singling out her son, Hunter Biden, over his Ukrainian business association with an energy firm linked to corruption allegations.
“Well, you know, it’s been a little difficult. I’m a mother. I know you’re a mother,” Dr. Jill Biden told MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace when asked how it felt to have her family at the center of the president’s impeachment trial.
“It’s hard when you see your kids attacked,” Jill Biden continued. “But I think that voters realized this is about Donald Trump. It’s not about my son Hunter or my husband, and I think it’s disgraceful what Donald Trump has done. And we know this is all a distraction.”
She went onto claim that “most Iowans” want to see Trump defeated in November.
“The bottom line I think for most Iowans is they want to beat Donald Trump. That’s the bottom line,” she added.
“And so if Donald Trump is doing this because he is afraid of my husband, then that turns out to be a good thing for Joe because they’re getting behind him, and they’re supporting him,” Jill Biden noted.
Hunter Biden was being paid a reported $83,000 a month by Ukrainian energy company Burisma, a position he was offered and accepted as his father, Joe Biden, was given the lead on Ukraine policy by President Obama.
Joe Biden is on video bragging at an event in 2018 that he threatened to withhold $1 billion in loan guarantees to Ukraine unless the president at the time, Petro Poroshenko, fired the country’s lead prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, who was, at the time, investigating corruption allegations involving Burisma.
Critics of Biden claim he threatened Ukraine in order to protect his son, an allegation he has denied.
A poll buried by the Des Moines Register and CNN take prior to Monday’s caucuses in Iowa showed Biden in fourth place, losing to Sens. Bernie Sanders (Vt) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), as well as South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
We can confirm the final results of the unreleased Iowa Poll:
