CNN host Chris Cuomo blasted U.S. Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) on Friday for referring to a network White House correspondent as “a liberal hack,” calling the former fighter pilot a “punk.”
“She really acted like a punk today,” Cuomo told fellow CNN anchor Don Lemon. “She did a disservice to herself and the seat that she holds, which is John McCain’s.”
McSally, who was appointed by Gov. Doug Ducey to fill the Senate seat left open by the late and long-serving Sen. John McCain and later vacated by former Sen. Jon Kyl, , has refused to apologize for calling CNN reporter Manu Raju a “liberal hack” on Thursday.
Several mainstream media personalities and reporters have attacked McSally, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel who flew A-10 fighter bombers in combat.
Cuomo moved on to mention McSally’s Democrat opponent, Mark Kelly, a former NASA astronaut and husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-Ariz), saying that the Republican has an uphill battle against Kelly.
“There’s no question she has a tough race on her hands,” he said. “The question is, is she ruining it all right now? Because if you want to be John McCain, you can’t be doing what she did today.”
Giffords was nearly assassinated in January 2011 during an event in Tucson, Ariz., by Jared Loughner, a Left-leaning activist with mental health issues.
A federal judge, a congressional aide and four others were killed and 12 other people suffered wounds in the attack.
